This is the flower garden at the end of the first season. Over the years, many changes were made. It's been a learning experience, learning by trial and error. I've since added ivy to climb onto the rail and around the columns. I also found an ostrich-plume fern, which I planted just to the left of the euonymous. The euonymous died a few seasons ago from a "powdery mite" infection and the moonlit broom grew so big that it uprooted itself and eventually died as did the dwarf alberta spruce. |

The grass on our postage-stamp size lawn never grew right because of multiple factors: little sunlight and rain because of our large oak tree, and children and their bikes on the lawn.
After 9 years of dealing with the sparse lawn and mud puddles where there was no grass, I decided this year to create a little "curb appeal" and give Michael a parking lot for his bike. Now, finally, I can have a diverse garden and Lance doesn't have to mow the "lawn." |
